International Symposium   On Agrometeorology And   Food Security (INSAFS); Schedule for Technical session

Association of Agrometeorologists

Agricultural Meteorology in India is more than 50 years old with the establishment of Division of Agricultural Meteorology in India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Pune. However, it could make significant progress only during the last 25 years largely due to the initiative taken by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). While ICAR has made all out effort through human resource development and creation of infrastructure for initiating research activities with the establishment of Department of Agricultural Meteorology and All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) in several State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), the DST has made massive investment in establishing the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) and launching of Agrometeorological Advisory Services (AAS) in all the states in association with SAUs. The scientists engaged in the fields related to Agrometeorological research, teaching and extension activities in different parts of the country felt the need of a platform where they could meet and widen the horizon of their knowledge by mutual exchange of views and experiences and research results through the medium of a publication in the form of a journal.

The Department of Agricultural Meteorology, Anand Agricultural University, Anand has enjoyed the distinction of being the pioneer in the country in respect of operating academic and concurrent research programme in the area of Agricultural Meteorology since 1964. The department has further taken lead to fulfill the long felt desire of Indian Agrometeorologists. At their behest the Association of Agrometeorologists was formed with certain aims and objectives, at B A College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, India and registered under the society and trust registration acts on the eve of WMO Day in March 1999.
